She also suggested the city’s official slogan, “Forward with Caution,” and designed the city’s flag.
These contributions, plus her frequent attendance at city council meetings, led many to refer to Weiss as the “Mother of Miami Beach,” and an “unelected councilman” of the city. In 1975, the City of Miami Beach passed Resolution 75-14749 assigning the name “Rose Weiss Park” to a public space at the corner of Washington Avenue and Second Street.
